如果说去年的年度词汇是“多重危机”，那么或许我们在2024年的讨论中可以带来些许乐观。我认为是“危与机”这个词，在中文里，不仅意味着危险与困境，也蕴含了“机会”的寓意。
这并非否认我们在未来一年将面临严峻挑战，而是希望我们在应对挑战的同时，也能抓住变革、改革与合作的机遇。例如，气候危机就为我们提供了契机，推动能源系统转向更清洁的技术，走上更环保的发展道路。
同样，为应对一些全球最棘手的危机，围绕金融体系和多边开发银行改革的重大议程也可能开辟新的变革和发展机遇。
If the word of the year last year was‘polycrisis’, perhaps we might inject a little more optimism into thediscussion in 2024, so I would suggest the Chinese word 危机 (weiji),which denotes both crisis and, in the second half, 机 (ji), the word foropportunity, 机会 (jihui).
This isn’t to deny that we face very substantial challenges in theyear ahead, but it is to hope that, alongside these, we may also be ableto seize opportunities for change, for reform and for cooperation. Theclimate crisis, for example, is an opportunity to shift energy systems tocleaner technologies and spur greener paths of development.
Major reform agendas, for instance around the financial architectureand reform of the multilateral development banks, may also present newopportunities for change and development in some of the world’s mostchallenging crises.
